86

We attented a very fun costumed birthday party this weekend. It was the anniversary of two of our friends, 86 years old of age combined!

My costume? A famous and colourful entertainment critic from around here (Francine Grimaldi). I would have needed bigger glasses!

Endless Autumn

The temperature is still incredibly warm; this autumn almost seems perpetual…

Endless Autumn

This is the second of two abstract drawings that I begun a few months ago and that I almost completed the other weekend. It is going back in the drawer for an undetermined period of time before being exhumed again. I sometimes need a certain state of mind to work on a drawing, especially when it is an abstract piece like this. Or maybe it is already finished???

Work in progress

I don’t remember the last time I worked on a composition. It’s like a whole new territory to explore and I kind of forgot how to proceed. There is a good chance there will be numerous versions of this drawing!

For the first test, I have used a liquid frisquet (a kind of drawing gum) to protect some parts of the composition and the first layer of ink has been applied. That is how far I got the other day. The plan for this weekend: complete this and/or have fun with the separate elements. Since I am more comfortable working on single shapes, there is a good chance I might warm up on these!

What have you planned for your weekend?

“Whaleful” weekend

The little lake has been emptied in preparation for the winter to come. Our landlord told us that he sometimes transforms this space into an ice ring… Well, my skates are already hung in the staircase!

The weekend has been whaleful. I painted two versions of the great mammal and also created a papercut. I have been a little bit obsessed by whales since I drew some on pebbles. I like their massive and simple shape and the way the light hits their skin under water.

And these submarine disco balls also came out during the weekend…

Back to abstract

A few months ago, I started two inkblots that were forgotten at the bottom of the drawer.
They were dug up yesterday and worked on, but I am not sure I am done with them…
Here  is one.

And we have a cat who pretends to be a squirrel.

Very few leaves are left in the trees. We can feel that the snow will soon cover everything.
Does it smell like winter in your neck of the woods?

Installation: part I

I love the way installations and land art transform space, creating a world of their own. I thought I would share with you some images I find inspiring. There are so many that I will have to dedicate more than one post on this subject!

Gerda Steiner and Jörg Lenzlinger

It must be enchanting to spend some time in this delicate and poetic Eden made out of plastic fruits, waste papers and banana leaves (to name a few of the components used for this installation). Have you noticed that everybody has to be barefoot? Something else I like about this!

Regine Ramseier

Another delicate and aerial installation but with a very different atmosphere. This upside down field makes you feel like a kid again! Link found through “à petit bruit“.

Claire Morgan

A bit more dramatic, but poetic and somehow elegant. Claire Morgan created so many beautiful pieces, it was hard to choose which ones to show. Visit her site to see it all…

Snow

A very thin layer of white snow was covering the ground when we woke up yesterday. I can’t wait for the first “real” snow, the one that will stay until next spring. It will be our first winter here, quite a change with Montreal. This is what the last snow storms looked like:

Also, I attended a benefit for the Haiti children last Tuesday. The organisers of this event were quite happy with the results!

Of course I forgot my camera on that night but a friend took photos that I will share as soon as I receive them.

Have a good week!

On a semi-break

I am taking a semi-break today, it has been a busy week, web and art combined.
Back on Monday with news from the benefit!

I wish you a relaxing weekend!

I have been asked to participate to a benefit for the Haiti children this Thursday night in Montreal. I am really excited! This is a great cause and a lot of people are expected to attend.

I will have a stand with painted pebbles (you have seen them before here, here and over here), greeting cards and Giclée prints derived from my illustrations.

There is a lot of preparation involved and not much time left! I will tell you how it went in my next post.
