I had quite the love affair with this floating gazelle. She first appeared in one of the drawings for Hello Every Sunday<\/a>, I then tried to render it as a painting, transformed it into a limited edition print<\/a>, and finally, illustrated on a plate. I was ready to move on after this.<\/p>\n

This is the plate before the final firing. The underglaze has a velvety texture, similar to gouache, but since the kiln is fired at 1226 \u00b0C, it melts and gets vitrified, along with the clay.<\/p>\n

I love how the tiny scratches catch the paint and gives more depth.<\/p>\n

And I spent an afternoon with my niece at the Caf\u00e9 C\u00e9ramic, where you can buy bisques (pottery that has been fired but not yet glazed) and use their underglazes to decorate them. They even fire it for you!<\/p>\n
