Julie Lapointe, alias La Datcha
Datcha: a small house on the outskirts of a large city

I’m a ceramic artist based in Lanaudière, Quebec.

Originally from northwestern Quebec, I grew up surrounded by conifer trees, rocky cliffs, and wild animals. These landscapes still live in my work — you’ll often find hares, bears, foxes… and quite a few mushrooms.

I studied fine arts and multimedia in Montreal, and discovered pottery about fifteen years ago. Since then, I’ve been creating one-of-a-kind pieces that often blend ceramics and illustration.

My studio was based in Montreal for many years, but is now nestled near a small village in Lanaudière, surrounded by forest — where I work, sometimes with a curious squirrel watching from the window.

You’ll find here a glimpse into what I shape with clay and a bit of whimsy.
